After being rejected for being too scrawny, Steve Rogers was chosen as a test subject to become a Super Soldier.
The tests were successful and Steve Rogers became the physically perfect Captain America.
Captain America and Bucky Barnes (aka The Winter Soldier) tried to stop an explosive filled drone plane take to the sky. The resulting explosion "killed" Bucky and sent Captain America into the sea and into decades of suspended animation.
Captain America fas found and revived by The Avengers and since then has been at the very heart of the team.
